As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, Midwest Akita Rescue Society (MARS) depends entirely on the efforts of our volunteers and tax-deductible donations to continue our work of helping Akitas. See below for some of the ways you can help MARS in our mission to rescue Akita dogs.
Foster
As a rescue without a physical location, MARS relies heavily on foster homes to temporarily house our Akitas. Fosters open their homes to help provide dogs with the care they need while we find them permanent homes. Volunteer
There are many ways you can lend your time to help MARS. From helping with fundraising, marketing or administrative tasks to hands-on help walking or transporting dogs, we’re sure to have a volunteer opportunity that fits you! Adopt
MARS has Akitas available for adoption at several Midwest locations. To help ensure that every Akita placed by MARS becomes a loved and well-cared-for family member, all potential homes are screened. To learn more about adopting a dog from MARS, please read our Pre-Adoption Guide. You can view our current orphans by clicking the button below. If you see an orphan that you think would be a good match for you and your family, you can learn more about them or fill out an application from their page.
Donate
Many of the Akitas we rescue require extended veterinary and foster care before they become available for adoption. We rely heavily on generous donations from our fellow Akita lovers. We are a non-profit, tax exempt charity recognized by the IRS as a 501(3)c organization. Your donations to MARS are fully tax-deductible. Sponsor an Orphan
If you would like to donate in honor of one of our orphans, use the “Sponsor Me” button on any of our adoptable dog’s pages. Any amount is appreciated and will help with that orphan’s care and expenses. For a one-time donation of $75+ or a monthly donation of $25+, we’ll thank you on the orphan’s page.
